Barbara Savage in conversation with Lyndal Roper

“Merze Tate: Theorizing Modern Black Womanhood”

Tate’s long academic life expands our understanding of early conceptualizations of the intersections of race, class, gender for the generation of women whose lives and ideas pre-dated the contemporary analytic language of black feminism.

Barbara Savage has just finished a biography of Tate, which will be published in the UK in spring 2024, titled Merze Tate: the Global Odyssey of a Black Woman Scholar.
